Rickie Lambert ended a fruitful campaign by striking a brace to take his tally to 37 for the season as Southampton beat relegated Southend 3-1.
Lambert headed an equaliser after Franck Moussa had given Southend a shock lead and then added a penalty before Adam Lallana wrapped the game up in stoppage time.
Despite neither side having anything to play for there were still 25,000 at St Mary's but it was the visitors who had the best of the first-half chances. Jean Mvoto placed a header just wide and Moussa was denied by a fine Kelvin Davis save.
Following a disappointing opening 45 minutes, the game opened up after the break and Moussa struck his sixth of the season in the 56th minute with a fine curling effort from 20 yards into the corner of the net.
The lead lasted just two minutes when Lambert snuck in at the near post to head in Jason Puncheon's cross.
Five minutes from time Mvoto brought down the Saints frontman inside the penalty area and Lambert dusted himself down to place his spot-kick into the bottom corner.
In the final minute Lallana was sent clear by Dan Harding before slotting home his 20th goal of the season.
