Spare a thought for Thierry Henry, who was live in attendance as Arsenal were outclassed by Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday evening.

Henry’s former club hit another disappointing low with a 3-0 defeat in front of their own fans, just four days after losing to Pep Guardiola’s side by the same scoreline in the Carabao Cup final.

The result, courtesy of goals from Bernardo Silva, David Silva and Leroy Sane, leaves Arsenal a stunning 30 points behind the Premier League leaders and you’ll be hard pushed to find a single supporter who remains ‘Wenger In’.

Henry’s name has been put forward as a potential replacement for Wenger and Guardiola, who managed the Frenchman at Barcelona, admitted that the 40-year-old has the ability to succeed in a managerial role.

"If he wants to be manager, he has the talent to do it," Guardiola said. "But he has to decide, not me."

Wenger looked like a defeated man as he slumped in his chair in the dugout last night but the same can’t be said about Guardiola.

Man City could have been forgiven for failing to be at their best at the Emirates, given their preparations were probably hindered by the Carabao Cup celebrations, but that simply wasn’t the case; City were remarkable, particularly in the first half.

Henry: Guardiola has extraordinarily high demands

That didn’t come as much of a surprise to Henry, who told a brilliant story on Sky Sports about the effort Guardiola demands from his players in training.

“He demands 100 per cent in training every single time no matter what the drill is,” Henry said.

“When you don’t do it he stops training and he goes inside. He doesn’t accept 99.9 per cent, you have to give him 100 per cent.

“That’s why those guys are doing what they are doing it is just brilliant to see that.

“Yes in a way I am upset because Arsenal didn’t perform but we are seeing one of if not the greatest teams we’ve seen in this league in terms of football.”

You’re right there, Thierry.

If the Frenchman doesn’t go for the Arsenal job, whenever it becomes vacant, he shouldn’t be blamed; going up against Guardiola doesn’t sound like a very enjoyable task.
