Although Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons is an MVP winner and has taken his team to the Super Bowl, NFL fans are in disbelief over how much his team could be willing to pay him per year to keep him at the franchise.Since being drafted by the Falcons in 2008, Ryan has achieved a 95-63 career record in the regular season, and a 4-6 record in the playoffs, which includes an appearance in Super Bowl LI during the 2016 season.In that same season, the quarterback won the NFL MVP award, and throughout his career, he’s made four Pro Bowls and was the 2008 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. He's also thrown for more than 41,000 yards and has 260 touchdown passes. Not many quarterbacks in NFL history have been able to do what Ryan has done in his 10-year career. However, many NFL fans can't believe the reported number that Atlanta could be offering him per year to stay with the franchise, as they believe he is overvalued.According to WSBTV, the Falcons have opened up negotiations over a new contract with the quarterback's agent, Tom Condon, and it could lead to the NFL’s first-ever $30 million a year contract.WSBTV has stated as well that if Atlanta is able to re-sign Ryan before the new league year starts on March 14, they would have more money to spend under the expected $178-$180 million salary cap.Falcons General Manager Thomas Dimitroff said on Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine: “We both know where Matt needs to be (financially). He needs to be here and he wants to be here and as I said, I don’t think it’s a complicated situation. It’s a deal that’s significant."As stated above, NFL fans are in disbelief over this '$30 million a year contract' the Falcons value Ryan at.

Ryan is still one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL today, but he did have a down year in 2017 compared to his 2016 MVP year. He threw for almost 900 yards less (2016 - 4,944, 2017 - 4,095), as well as almost half as many touchdowns (2016 - 38, 2017 - 20), and almost double the number of interceptions (2016 - seven, 2017 - 12).

If Ryan does end up earning $30 million a year, he's probably going to have to take the Falcons to another Super Bowl at the very least to make that amount of money look worthwhile. This, as well, can only mean good things for other quarterbacks in the NFL waiting to be paid that are better than him, like Green Bay Packers' Aaron Rodgers.
