The LA Rams are back in the trade headlines. Just days after acquiring CB Marcus Peters, they have agreed a deal to send pass rusher Robert Quinn to the Dolphins. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Dolphins are sending a mid-round draft pick to Los Angeles in addition to a swapping of late-round picks in exchange for the 27-year-old.

The trade won't become official until the new league year begins March 14.

Quinn's departure has been on the cards for a number of weeks now, and was initially offered to the Chiefs as part of the Peters deal before Kansas City GM Brett Veach agreed to receiving second- and fourth-round draft picks instead.

The Rams have essentially replaced their lost fourth-round pick from their dealing with the Chiefs in this trade.

With 62.5 sacks, 108 QB hits, 68 tackles for loss and 20 forced fumbles over his seven-year career, Quinn is a disruptive force off the edge when healthy.  However, injuries and inconsistent play over the past three seasons, coupled with his large contract, have led to his departure from LA.

The Dolphins will be on the hook for the last two years of his deal, which pays out roughly $24 million. Last year, the two-time Pro Bowler recorded 8.5 sacks and 32.5 tackles.

Whilst his play has declined, a fresh start and a chance to prove himself once more as a premier pass rusher in the NFL may invigorate Quinn. The Dolphins ranked 16th in sacks in 2017 and their defensive front will certainly benefit from Quinn's ability, especially playing alongside Cameron Wake and Ndamukong Suh.

At his best, Quinn is an elite edge rusher, as he displayed in 2013 when he recorded 19 sacks, only 12 players in league history have bettered that mark.

The Rams will miss his impact off the edge and may need to address the position in the draft or free agency. However, he carried a near $12.4 million cap hit in 2018 and given his injury history he had become a dispensable asset in LA.

Wade Phillips' ability to develop defensive players could lead them to replace Quinn with an in-house talent though, with a duo of young pass rushers in Carlos Thompson and Samson Ebukam showing promise in 2017.

Ebukam, a fourth-round pick in last years draft out of Eastern Washington, notched 31 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble in 16 games in his rookie year. Thompson was promoted from the practice squad in December, playing in three games.
