Brian Ortega made history at UFC 222 last night as he did something which no other professional MMA fighter has done. He became the first fighter to defeat Frankie Edgar via knockout. Nevertheless, many sent out their respects to Edgar for taking up the fight when he could have dropped out, including one Conor McGregor.Ortega showed to the world that he was the real deal on Saturday night when he ended The Answer with 4:44 gone in the first round of their contest, becoming the first person ever to finish the American inside the Octagon. It was pretty much even between Edgar and Ortega before the latter stages of the first round. A counter left by Ortega opened the fight up as it stunned Edgar. T-City then continued to pour it on, following it up with an elbow before a monster right uppercut, and then hammer fists as The Answer was on the floor before referee Jason Herzog stopped the fight.Edgar didn't have to take up this fight after UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway pulled out due to injury, but he did so anyway, and despite the loss, many UFC fighters have praised the 36-year-old for stepping into the Octagon last night, including McGregor.Notorious said on Twitter towards The Answer after the fight had taken place: "Frankie's career deserved for that to be against me tonight. Respect Frankie. Love and respect always! A true fighters fighter ❤."

This tweet comes after a 'war of words' between the camps of McGregor and Edgar over the past week or so after the Irish fighter revealed that he wanted to step in and be Holloway's replacement at UFC 222, but UFC rejected the idea as 'there wasn't enough time to generate the money that the UFC would need,' for the fight.

Edgar's camp, however, profusely denied the claim, and stated as well they wouldn't have accepted the fight anyways after the number of times the Irishman has rejected fights with the American in the past.

UFC president Dana White did confirm though after UFC 222 that McGregor had put his name forward to be Holloway's replacement at the event, but the reason why he didn't make the fight was that Notorious wasn't in the same division and the Ortega fight had already been made.

T-City was awarded a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for defeating The Answer. After the fight, he praised Edgar too, saying according to MMA Fighting: “It was an honor to share the Octagon with a legend like Frankie.”
