Manchester City moved 18 points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium. The scoreline was close but the gulf in class wasn’t. Chelsea didn’t even manage a shot on target in 90 minutes. After a goalless first-half, Bernardo Silva gave the runaway leaders the lead within a minute of the restart. And it was a lead that they would hold on to without any difficulty whatsoever.Antonio Conte has questions to answer after some rather debatable decisions. The Italian started Eden Hazard in a false nine role and waited until the 78th minute to introduce a striker, Olivier Giroud finally making his way onto the pitch. He introduced Alvaro Morata in the 90th minute in a substitute that would have made more sense if Chelsea were actually pressing.

What Hazard did when he was subbed off

Hazard made way for the Spaniard late on and football fans noticed that he didn’t even acknowledge Conte as he walked past him, simply keeping his head down and trudging off.

Those are not the signs of a player who’s currently in support of his manager.

Hazard and Conte could both leave

Conte’s position has been talked about for much of the season but it’s not just his departure that Chelsea may have to deal with in the summer.

Hazard has been linked with a move to Real Madrid and the Spanish giants will definitely make a move if they sense that the Belgian star is unhappy in west London.

That may be the case, or it might not. Hazard has never been one to down tools but he’s 27 now and the chance to play for Real Madrid won’t be there forever.

Thankfully for Chelsea, they don’t have to say goodbye to Hazard if they don’t want to. His current contract expires in 2020 and so they can dictate demands to Real Madrid instead of buckling under their pressure.

Yet what’s to say that Hazard won’t attempt to force a move away from Stamford Bridge?
