Chelsea's hopes of making the Premier League top four suffered a setback on Sunday as they lost 1-0 away to runaway leaders Manchester City.

While City edge closer to dethroning Chelsea as champions, the result leaves Antonio Conte's men five points behind fourth-placed Tottenham with nine matches to go.

Man City's style of play this season has been a joy to watch, and while their opponents should be cautious, many people were surprised by Chelsea's somewhat negative approach.

Conte left both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud on the bench, with Eden Hazard playing a false striker, and they failed to register a single shot on target in the entire game.

The thousands of Chelsea supporters who went to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday no doubt left in a disappointed mood, but they kept on chanting one song at Man City.

What Chelsea fans chanted at Man City

The travelling support saw their team, which was without N'Golo Kante, have just 29% possession against Man City, with Gary Neville and Jamie Redknapp slamming Conte's tactics.

As was heard during the live broadcast of the contest, and confirmed by BBC's Phil McNulty, Chelsea fans reminded their City counterparts that they've never won the Champions League.

On several different occasions, Blues fans sang: "You'll never sing that, you'll never sing that, champions of Europe, you'll never sing that!"

This, of course, is in reference to the fact that Chelsea beat Bayern Munich to win the Champions League in 2012, while Man City are yet to win Europe's elite club competition.

However, as McNulty and others on Twitter suggested, they may regret singing that because Man City look more realistic contenders than Chelsea - whether it be this term or in the years to come.

Can City win the Champions League?

For as long as Pep Guardiola is their manager, it's more than likely that Man City will be serious contenders to win the Champions League each and every season.

They're keeping clean sheets at the back and are quite devastating going forward with attacking talents like Kevin de Bruyne, David Silva, Leroy Sane, Sergio Aguero and more.

The 2017-18 league title is all but wrapped up and City recorded a very comfortable 4-0 win at Basel in their Champions League Round of 16 first-leg tie.

Guardiola's men will look to finish the job off this Wednesday when they host the Swiss champions before a Monday night battle against 19th-placed Stoke City.
