Preston boss Darren Ferguson is confident that midfielder Barry Nicholson will be back in action again by October.

Nicholson aggravated the leg fracture which kept him out for most of the season during his comeback in the final-day defeat at Reading.

"He has just slightly opened up his fracture; it is not as bad as we thought it could be," Ferguson told the club's official website. "We could have been looking at a similar timescale as before which would have been a disaster. We're looking at October time for him to get back to action."

He added: "Hopefully that will be the case. It is disappointing for Baz but he is a strong character."
