Larry Nance Jr. had a historic game last night for the Cleveland Cavaliers, as in his first start for the Cavs, he had a career-night, guiding his team to a fantastic victory against the Detroit Pistons. The Cavaliers won 112-90 against the Pistons on Monday night at the Quicken Loans Arena, with Nance having a career-night in points and rebounds, with 22 points, 15 rebounds, an assist, two steals, and he was also 9-of-15 from the field.Despite arriving in Cleveland from the Los Angeles Lakers on trade deadline day, this was the 25-year-old's first start for the franchise, since he was called in as a replacement for Tristan Thompson, who is on the sidelines for the next two weeks while he recovers from a sprained right ankle.Speaking after the game to ESPN, Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue revealed why it took nine games and a Thompson injury before he went with Nance in the first unit, saying that he wanted him to get used to the way which the Cavs play before starting him.Lue said: "I was just letting him get a chance to figure out our offense, our defense and what we want to do. I liked what he did off the bench because we need that spark and that energy. But we can't dig ourselves holes at the beginning of games either and expect for those guys to come in and bring us back every time. Don't know right now."The Cavs head coach was surprised just like many of us by what Nance was able to do on the court on Monday night against the Pistons."I didn't know he could shoot it," Lue said. "He never shot it in L.A. But coming here, just watching him shoot, he has 3-point range also, which I didn't know. If he can continue to make that shot, it helps our offense out tremendously."

Nance himself stated after the game that more performances like last night's game could be coming as he gets his extended audition for the starting role before Thompson is able to play again.

"To be honest, playing here, I have quite a bit of confidence," he said. "Whether it's the coaching staff or the guys, they have confidence in me. Therefore I have confidence in myself. The numbers, the night individually that I had, is all secondary to the win."

At this rate, Lue is going to be facing a tough decision over Nance when Thompson is able to play once more. Until then, Nance will continue to start for the Cavs, who play next on Wednesday when they travel to Denver to take on the Nuggets.
