For several pulsating minutes on Saturday night, it appeared that the landscape of the heavyweight division was about to unexpectedly shift.

Cuban contender Luis Ortiz was seemingly a matter of punches away from dethroning reigning WBC champion Deontay Wilder in the seventh round of their bout at the Barclays Center in New York - as the boxing world looked on in awe.

One particularly interested observer was current WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (24-0, 20 KOs), who watched the contest from his training camp in Las Vegas alongside his team, including his long time trainer Kevin Barry.

New Zealander Parker can now be seen reacting to the fight live, thanks to the YouTube channel 'BoxerVisionHD'.

"He's gone!" Parker is seen to exclaim as Ortiz looked to be on the verge of finishing Wilder - the 26-year-old champion showing himself to have been just as absorbed by the contest as any other fan.

Wilder was, however, able to weather the storm and eventually halted a tiring Ortiz in the 10th round.

The fight was undoubtedly the toughest of Wilder's 40-fight career.

Parker appeared much more stoic at this point, perhaps pausing to take in everything he had just witnessed. The manner of the victory clearly impressed trainer Kevin Barry, though, who reflected favourably on Wilder's resilience.

"Wow!" Barry said. "You have to give him (Wilder) props for that...He's come back from no man's land."

Barry was also seen to be encouraging the American in the closing stages of the fight, yelling at Wilder to "hit him again."

It should be noted that Wilder (now 40-0, 39 KOs) is far more marketable as a heavyweight champion that Ortiz would have been. The outspoken Wilder is known for his ability to hype fights with his verbal jabs towards his opposition.

Ortiz, a non English speaker, does not possess that same skill.

Team Parker will be well aware of this and so therefore may have been keen to see Wilder retain in order to preserve the prospect of a lucrative Parker vs Wilder clash in the future.

The closing scenes of the video show footage of Wilder's post-fight interview with US broadcaster Showtime, in which Wilder was asked about the prospect of a unification bout with WBA and IBF champion Anthony Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs).

Given that Joshua and Parker are to meet in their own unification fight in Cardiff on March 31, the question might have seemed premature to some.

One man who certainly picked up on this was Kevin Barry.

"They are overlooking you again," he is seen to tell his charge, to which an unimpressed Parker nods in agreement.

Deontay Wilder has already confirmed that he will be ringside for the Joshua vs Parker fight at the end of the month and it is likely that the winner of the bout will be his next opponent.

Regardless of who is next to challenge Wilder, his performance on Saturday is sure to be reviewed countless times as they look to emulate the moments of success enjoyed by Luis Ortiz.
