Georges St-Pierre returned to UFC last November and captured the UFC Middleweight Championship when he defeated Michael Bisping at UFC 217. However, he vacated the title a month later due to suffering from ulcerative colitis and he's not fought since.

Many UFC fans have been begging for GSP to step foot inside the Octagon at welterweight, the weight class which he reigned supreme for over five years from 2008 to 2013, for a dream fight against the current UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley.

Speaking on The MMA Hour this week, the Canadian revealed that a fight against Woodley was being discussed at one point, and he even wanted to fight The Chosen One. As we know though, he ultimately decided to move up a weight class upon his return to UFC after almost four years away.

Rush said, according to MMA Fighting: “Tyron Woodley, in the beginning — before — I wanted to fight Tyron Woodley. A few years ago, I wanted to fight Tyron Woodley. We even texted each other.

GSP revealed that the reason why no bout against Woodley took place was that he wanted to put his legacy on the line for something new upon his return to MMA, and a fight against Bisping for the UFC Middleweight title provided that opportunity.

He said: "However the idea of coming back at 185 was put in my head, and then I thought it made more sense, so that’s why I chose to go at 185. Because I fought at 170 all of my life, and if I put my legacy against someone, it needs to be something great. Something that, the guy needs to be accomplishing something special. If I put my legacy at risk, I want it to be worth it.

"If I fight against a guy who fights at 170 — Tyron is a great champion, but I feel like he fought ‘Wonderboy,’ he won the fight, but his last fights were not fights that made history. He won the fights, it was great, but it feels like it was not like a special fight.”

UFC fans would still love to see Woodley vs St-Pierre for the UFC Welterweight title one day, but it isn't going to take place for some time since both fighters are currently on the shelf.

As mentioned above, Rush is still out due to ulcerative colitis, while The Chosen One is out of action after recently having shoulder surgery.
