Anthony Martial has really turned around his Manchester United career this season and nobody will be happier than Jose Mourinho.

After a flying debut campaign at Old Trafford, the Frenchman came down with a bout of second season syndrome with just eights goal in 32 appearances under the Special One. In 2017-18, he'd eclipsed that figure by the halfway stage.

Nevertheless, it still hasn't been the easiest journey for Martial who now faces competition from Marcus Rashford, Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata in United's front three.

The 22-year-old was held back on the bench for recent clashes with Huddersfield (twice) and Sevilla, but impressed with an assist when given the green light against Chelsea.

All in all, you have to say Martial has been a success for the Red Devils after a £36 million summer transfer in 2015 that bewildered the majority of Premier League fans.

Complications over Anthony Martial's new contract

That being said, talks are ongoing over a contract renewal at the club with his current deal running out in 16 month's time and Juventus showing an active interest.

You'd seriously doubt that United would let the Frenchman go easily, even if that means seriously elevating his wages.

As highlighted by The Times, though, that wouldn't be the only major expense United would have to come to terms with surrounding Martial.

Major payday coming up for AS Monaco

In fact, the 22-year-old's next league goal for the Red Devils will cost them something of a small fortune.

The report highlights: "United will have to pay Monaco another instalment of €10 million (£8.9 million) when Martial scores his 25th league goal. He is currently on 24."

That - of course - could very well come against Liverpool at lunchtime on Saturday.

It would be a fitting way for Martial to meet the targets once set for him by Monaco, too. His first goal for United came in an Old Trafford clash with Liverpool and in some style too, enrapturing the crowd with a mazy run and deft finish.

So another home goal against the Reds would bring proceedings full-circle, even if it means they're forking out a cool €10 million.

However, that will be the last thing on the minds of fans if Martial finds the net in the biggest game in English football or in any Premier League clash taking place shortly after.

You just know he'll hit 25 league goals soon and while that would effectively elevate his transfer fee, he still looks a bargain up against the fees of Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele.
