Danny Welbeck hasn’t had the easiest of careers at Arsenal.
Over his four seasons with the club he’s been stifled by injury, upstaged by big-money signings and perhaps most importantly, he simply hasn’t scored enough since his 2014 move from Manchester United.
Due to that, the 27-year-old is yet to properly endear himself to the Arsenal fans, instead developing something of a comical reputation amongst the Emirates faithful.
His shortcomings aren’t met by frustration anymore, they’re met by laughter. Frustrated laughter no doubt, but laughter nonetheless.
This was showcased perfectly during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over AC Milan at the San Siro on Thursday night.
The Gunners raced into a commanding lead after goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Aaron Ramsey gave the visitors two vital away goals.
Both strikes were however overshadowed by a comically embarrassing miss from Welbeck in the second half which caught the eye of many a exasperated Arsenal fan on Twitter.
Driving at Milan’s defence, the England forward ignores numerous options to pass and attempts a shot at goal from the edge of the box, only to scuff his shot and skew the ball towards the corner flag at a snail’s pace, fall over and appeal for a free-kick.
Thankfully due to Arsenal’s two-goal advantage, their fans saw the funny side.
Welbeck has only managed 22 goals in 97 appearances for Arsenal and is yet to reach double figures in a season at The Emirates.
With Arsene Wenger investing a lot of money in attacking players lately, you wonder how long he will keep patience with the the forward, especially given that it appears Gunners fans lost theirs a long time ago.News Now - Sport News
