There are few defenders at the level of Barcelona's Samuel Umtiti right now.

The Frenchman arrived in the summer of 2016 from Lyon as a raw talent, but has blossomed into a complete centre-back during his short time in Spain.

His latest all-conquering display in Barca's 1-0 win over La Liga title rivals Atletico Madrid only further enhanced his reputation, with him and Gerard Pique expertly marshalling Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa.

However, despite his impressive form and the fact that Barcelona are a club every player dreams of playing for, Umtiti's future has come under questioning a number of times.

Manchester City were reportedly looking into a deal for the 24-year-old in the summer and now, the red half of Manchester are setting things into motion for what would be one hell of a signing.

The capture of Alexis Sanchez was big, but Umtiti - a player they desperately need - would be even bigger.

And, according to Catalan publication Sport, the Red Devils are already doing two huge things in order for a deal to be completed in the summer.

Reports of a €60m bid made the newspaper's front page on Friday and the details will certainly worry Barca fans.

UNITED NOT MESSING ABOUT

The report states that Mourinho is 'obsessed' with signing the French defenders and calls him on a regular basis.

And, the club are prepared to offer what Sport state as a 'stratospheric' salary offer, with the Red Devils putting together a €9m-a-year package, more than double his €4m-a-year wage at Barca.

If the Catalan media are reporting that, then talk of United's pursuit must be pretty serious.

Talks between Umtiti's brother Yannick - his agent - and the Red Devils are apparently 'constant' and the French defender is apparently not opposed to a move to England.

MOURINHO HAS OTHER DEFENSIVE TARGETS

The defensive department is clearly the area identified by the United boss as the one most in need of strengthening, with Tottenham duo Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose also high on Mourinho's wish-list, per The Sun.

Chris Smalling's days could be numbered come the summer.
