Neymar will have undoubtedly been devastated that he wasn't able to help Paris Saint-Germain attempt a comeback against Real Madrid in the Champions League during mid-week.

The French giants have desperately been pursuing glory on the European stage and the world-record arrival of the Brazilian was meant to help in doing that.

But after PSG's 3-1 defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg, Neymar was intent on playing an instrumental part in an attempt to achieve a historic comeback on Tuesday night.

However, an ankle injury suffered in a recent Ligue 1 fixture against Marseille not only ruled him out of the return leg but also potentially for the remainder of the season.

The injury was a devastating blow for both PSG and Neymar and could have further ramifications for both parties as far as the Ligue 1 giants are concerned, following their 5-2 aggregate defeat.

Real's 2-1 win at the Parc des Princes has thrown PSG boss Unai Emery's future into question, while the club are also reportedly concerned about the future of Neymar.

It's no secret that Brazil international left Barcelona to step out of the shadow of Lionel Messi and increase his prospects of winning the Ballon d'Or.

PSG fear Neymar wants to quit

And according to AS, PSG fear that their last-16 exit from the Champions League could provoke Neymar to seek a move away from the club, despite only joining in the summer for £200 million.

It's obvious that Neymar wishes to compete for the Champions League and PSG's exit at the first round of the knockout stage shows the club are some way from achieving that.

A significant increase in reports of Real's interest in the former Barcelona forward has followed after speculation that Neymar isn't happy at PSG and regrets leaving the Camp Nou.

And AS also reported that Los Blancos chiefs were in Paris a few weeks ago to discover what it would take for the Ligue 1 champions to part with their star asset.

Real given astronomical quote for Neymar

During a meeting which also involved Neymar's father and legal representatives, Real were told that it would take an offer of €400 million for the club to consider selling the 26-year-old.

Real president Florentino Perez is aware of the Brazilian's desire to return to Spain and, more importantly, the club hasn't made a Galactico signing since the arrival of Gareth Bale in 2013.

More worringly for PSG, it wouldn't be unforeseeable for Real Madrid to make such an offer - given the fact that they now need to consider their forward options for the era after Ronaldo.

Although far from happening just yet, it would form an astronomical transfer that would suit both Real Madrid and Neymar, but would certainly upset both PSG and Barcelona.

Los Blancos now know the fee, but time will tell if the stars will align for both parties.
