Eric Bailly has become something of a cult hero at Manchester United following his £30 million move from Villarreal in the summer of 2016.The Ivory Coast international, who was Jose Mourinho’s first signing as Man Utd manager, has endeared himself to the Old Trafford faithful with his talismanic performances and his bizarre antics.From risking his life by kicking Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the dressing room to flinging his crutches away and running onto the pitch after the Europe League final, Bailly is a proper character.The 23-year-old returned to United’s starting line-up for today’s huge Premier League clash against Liverpool.This was the centre-back’s first start since November 5. Talk about throwing him straight into the deep end.

However, Bailly was barely troubled during the opening 45 minutes as United outclassed their fierce domestic rivals.

Marcus Rashford put the Red Devils 1-0 up with a beautiful goal in the 14th minute and then doubled his tally 10 minutes later.

Ten minutes after that and it was Bailly who had the United supporters cheering after embarrassing Liverpool’s star man, Mohamed Salah, with a roulette turn that Zinedine Zidane would have been proud of.

Bailly went on to score an own goal

Unfortunately for Bailly, he went on to score a quite spectacular own goal in the 65th minute of the match and then appeared to suffer an injury.

However, he played on until full-time as United secured a 2-1 victory.
