The World Boxing Super Series has undoubtedly been a major success thus far, at both super middleweight and cruiserweight levels.

The cruiser division has seen some brilliant brawls, with Oleksandr Usyk and Murat Gassiev set to meet in an explosive final.

Meanwhile, the super middleweights has delivered an all-English final, with Callum Smith preparing to meet George Groves for the Muhammad Ali trophy.

So far, Smith has recorded two comfortable points wins against Erik Skoglund and Nieky Holzken, and he was rarely troubled.

Groves has already faced two Englishmen to get to where he is, stopping Jamie Cox with a brutal body shot, before his emphatic unanimous decision victory over Chris Eubank Jr.

Astonishingly, the 29-year-old wasn't even favourite to beat Eubank, but he completely nullified his opponent and controlled the fight from round one.

However, in the 12th round Groves suffered a dislocated shoulder, which he fought on with for over a minute, and required surgery afterwards.

That meant that he wouldn't be fit for the original scheduled date for the final on June 2, and he subsequently requested for it to be pushed back a month, by which time he'll be ready to go.

Initially, the WBSS board were prepared to proceed without Groves and find a replacement, as they did when Jurgen Braehmer pulled out of his semi-final with Smith.

But now it appears as though they have agreed to 'Saint's' appeal, and have revealed two possible dates for the highly-anticipated bout.

After consulting medics, they've lined up either July 7 or 14 at the Manchester Arena, where Groves' WBA 'super' world super middleweight title will also be on the line.

The venue could still be changed though, with the 21,000 capacity nowhere near enough for the demand for tickets the bout will bring.

Therefore, football stadiums are also being looked at, which shouldn't be a problem with it being scheduled during pre-season.

Tony Bellew and Kell Brook have fought at Goodison Park and Bramall Lane in the last two years, while Anthony Joshua sold out Wembley Stadium for his fight with Wladimir Klitschko.

Smith's promoter Eddie Hearn has informed the board that Groves is the only fight they want, and initally claimed they would even wait until the turn of the year if need be.

Fortunately, that doesn't look like it's going to be an issue, and we can expect the pair to meet in the ring in four months' time.

If Groves' semi-final is anything to go by, it should be an absolute pearler of a fight.
