Exactly this time last year, WWE fans that were keeping up with the speculation were buzzing about the fact that The Hardy Boyz making a return to the company was slowly becoming a reality.

Despite the doubters, all of the signs pointed towards a return and that’s exactly what happened. The fans inside of the Camping World Stadium went absolutely ballistic when the New Day moved to the side to allow both Matt and Jeff Hardy to make their highly anticipated returns.

It was only fitting that they left the ladder match with the RAW tag team champions too. However, it’s their shocking return which has easily gone down as one of the greatest WrestleMania moments in history.

RETURN

Nowadays, it’s quite difficult to keep debuts and returns a secret with the rise of the internet and social media. This is something Matt admitted too as he awaits to see the fan reaction from the Ultimate Deletion match opposite Bray Wyatt which was filmed earlier this week.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Matt spoke about his WrestleMania 33 return being kept a surprise, and how they managed to keep it a secret from the majority of their fans up until their music finally played.

SECRECY

He said: “It was quite overwhelming and quite flattering, to be honest with you. It was quite incredible because it had truly been kept a secret up to that point.

“We had literally just arrived at the building right before we were due to walk down the ramp to the ring, and the adrenaline of being snuck into the building and going up to gorilla [position] and then walking down that ramp was very, very special.

“Anything is difficult to keep a secret in this day and age, as far as professional wrestling goes. Access to information is insane today. You can’t tell anyone anything if you want something to be kept a secret these days. There was only a very small circle of people who knew and we really worked hard to make it a special moment and a true surprise.”

Despite only a small circle of people being aware, the whispers did end up spreading like wildfire. So much so, that it was reported one small detail featuring the use of ladders on an episode of Monday Night RAW signalled that The Hardy Boyz would be making a return.

Now that it’s in the books and Matt has evolved into the Woken character, it’s going to take something truly special next month at WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans, Louisiana to top a reaction as incredible as that.
