One of the more surprising results that took place at the WWE Fastlane event on Sunday night saw Randy Orton defeat Bobby Roode to claim the United States Championship. It wasn’t really a surprise that he won, it was more along the lines that he won it at the event before WrestleMania. With Jinder Mahal entering the fold, you’d assume that WWE would save this coronation and a big milestone for The Viper until next month at the Grandest Stage of Them All.Instead, Orton is going to head into the Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana as the champion and based on what happened at Fastlane, it looks as if we have ourselves a triple threat match for the gold featuring Orton, Roode and The Modern Day Maharaja.

GRAND SLAM CHAMPION

However, everyone is rightfully congratulating Orton on achieving this brilliant feat by finally capturing the only championship that has eluded him throughout his career.

With his victory on Sunday night, Orton joins an elite list of WWE superstars that have also completed the Grand Slam. Kurt Angle, the late Eddie Guerrero, Edge, the Big Show, Daniel Bryan, Chris Jericho, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and The Miz are the only ones who have the honour of completing a Grand Slam.

That’s right, not even John Cena is in that category.

CHEAP SHOT

Following Orton’s win, the current Intercontinental Champion took to Twitter to congratulate him and welcome him to the club. Obviously, the tweet was going to be in typical Miz fashion and he couldn’t help but throw a cheap shot at one of his WrestleMania 34 opponents in Finn Balor.

He posted: “Congrats on becoming a Grand Slam Champion, @RandyOrton.

“Welcome to the club...and not “the club” where you wear stupid leather jackets and too sweet each other like it’s the 90s.”

Obviously, The Miz was referring to Balor’s history in the Bullet Club as well as the current Balor Club alongside Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson who do the traditional Too Sweet gesture regularly.

With that tweet, Balor probably won’t have a suitable response to get the better of The Miz. For now, The Miz needs to focus on WrestleMania 34 where he’ll defend his championship against both Balor and Seth Rollins - for now.

This is because it’s been speculated that depending on WrestleMania plans, several big names could be added to the match. These include Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe and even Elias.
