With the Los Angeles Lakers taking on the Cleveland Cavaliers at Staples Center on Sunday night, all eyes were on LeBron James but it was Julius Randle who stole the show.It was a sell-out crowd and a star-studded affair with celebrities and A-listers sat courtside as the L.A. faithful came out in an attempt to woo James ahead of his free agency this summer. But the King was upstaged by Randle as he inspired the Lakers to a huge 127-113 win with a terrific performance. The 23-year-old was a dominant force on the floor and ended the game with a career-high 36 points on 14-of-18 shooting, as well as 14 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks. His numbers on the night were outstanding and it's a display that we haven't seen in a Lakers uniform for a long time.In fact, the last player to put up these figures in a Purple and Gold uniform was Kobe Bryant in 2008, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

The Cavs had no answer for him as he owned the paint and punished their weak defence throughout the contest.

It was the second time in two games on the Staples Center floor that the Cavaliers have been dominated by a big man inside as DeAndre Jordan posted 20 points and 23 rebounds for the Clippers on Friday night.

Lakers head coach Luke Walton was impressed with Randle's performance but believes there's still a lot more to come from him.

“He was pretty special. Showed a lot of what he can do. The crazy thing is, I still think he can be better,” Walton said, per Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times.

The power forward said his monster showing didn't come as a surprise to him as he knows what he's capable of.

"It was something I always knew I could do," Randle said. "Just take time to continue to learn the game, continue to grow and develop as a player. As a person. Something I knew I could do. I'm not surprised but it feels good I guess."

The Kentucky product has shown that he can play at this level in flashes but has struggled to maintain any consistency to make that next step as a player.

With Los Angeles deciding not to offer him an extension in October, he will become a restricted free agent in the summer and may depart from the franchise if they choose not to give him a long-term deal.

It's clear that the Lakers are determined to sign two max contract players having freed up the cap space to do so at the trade deadline, which would make it hugely difficult to keep Randle.

But with performances like this, there's no doubt that he'll be of interest to other teams if he leaves the City of Angels.
