Alexis Sanchez and Manchester United crashed out the Champions League on Tuesday night after losing 2-1 at home to Sevilla. The Red Devils toiled to a 0-0 draw in the first leg at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium and they were even worse at Old Trafford.Jose Mourinho's side failed to create goalscoring opportunities and were eventually undone by Wissam Ben Yedder. The French striker came off the bench in the 72nd minute and scored two goals in four minutes to end Man United's European dream.Signed from Arsenal in January, Sanchez stayed on the pitch for the full 90 but looked some way off the necessary standard.“Sanchez looks like a shadow of his former self,” said Rio Ferdinand on BT Sport.“When he was at Arsenal, he was a player everyone looked to for inspiration. Here he looks like a stranger.“When you go to a new team, you don’t lose your talent. Something isn’t going for him.”Since making his Man United debut, Sanchez has scored one goal in 10 appearances.

Arsenal fans tweet about Sanchez

Incredibly, the 29-year-old Chilean lost the ball 42 times at Old Trafford - a new record for a Champions league game this season.

Fans of his former club, Arsenal, are clearly enjoying his struggles at Man United and plenty of them were tweeting about him during Sevilla's shock win.

Brutal stuff.

"Sanchez just loves the game," said Michael Carrick earlier this week. "He absolutely loves the game and every day in training he is the first one out with the ball at his feet, which is great to see.

"He is desperate to do well. He gives everything, he has done it for so many years now, we know exactly what he brings and he will have a great time here.

"I said when he first signed, he is a Man United player, he suits the way we play, he has got that excitement, he always looks forward, he is dynamic and in the end you can judge him in the first few games or whatever but I think over time he will be terrific and I have no doubts about it."

Man United cannot afford to slip up in their FA Cup quarter-final against Brighton on Saturday night - it's their last remaining chance of silverware this season.
