The longer it dragged on, the more CM Punk’s fans were hopeful of a WWE return as opposed to waiting for a second fight in the UFC.

His first didn’t go exactly as planned. As Punk is such a big name, all eyes were on him two years ago at UFC 203 where he submitted in two minutes and 14 seconds to Mickey Gall when he got locked in a rear-naked choke.

Since then, there have been rumours that Punk won’t fight inside of the Octagon again, or that a wrestling return outside of WWE could be on the cards.

UFC RETURN

However, Punk has stuck to his passion and continues to work hard while proving his doubters wrong by trying to secure a second fight under the UFC banner and judging by his Twitter activity, it looks like he could be having a second outing relatively soon in Chicago.

While fans are still hopeful that time will heal all wounds and Punk will come full circle by returning to WWE, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to be on the cards for quite some time. That’s probably shown with WWE stars and personnel shooting down the loud CM Punk chants with both Stephanie McMahon and Elias in recent memory either poking fun at Punk’s UFC debut or not letting fans hijack the show.

Despite the sour exit, not everyone is going to automatically despise Punk. For example, The Miz recently reacted to news that CM Punk could be gearing up for his second fight in the UFC when TMZ Sports caught up with the Ohio native.

MIZ REACTS

He said: “I hope he does well.

“The guy was going after a dream. He’s always wanted to do that. Whenever you go after a dream, why smash on it?

“He’s gonna do his best, he’s gonna try his hardest and I imagine he’s training his heart out to do the best he can in the Octagon.”

The Miz went on to reveal that he’s rooting for Punk, while also admitting that there’s no way he’s ever going to transition into the Octagon.

Punk is rumoured to be battling Mike Jackson to improve his record to 1-1, while The Miz is scheduled to defend his Intercontinental Championship against both Finn Balor and Seth Rollins in a triple threat match at WrestleMania 34.
