In the short space of two weeks, Lionel Messi has gone from never having scored against Chelsea to putting three past them to fire Barcelona into the Champions League quarter-finals.

Big players deliver on the big occasions and that's exactly what the Argentine did during Wednesday night's 3-0 victory at the Camp Nou, which made it 4-1 on aggregate.

Messi opened the scoring in the third minute with his quickest career goal, firing between Thibaut Courtois' legs from a tight angle.

Seventeen minutes later he assisted Ousmane Dembele to make it 2-0 by beating three Chelsea players and laying it on a plate for his teammate.

And in the 63rd minute, just when Chelsea were starting to dominate possession, Messi drove past Chelsea's defence and once again beat Courtois through the Belgian's sprawling legs.

Messi is now up to 100 goals in the Champions League and there's evidence to suggest he could catch the competition's all-time leading goalscorer, Cristiano Ronaldo (117).

He's reached the milestone in just 123 appearances - 14 quicker than Ronaldo (137), who is also two years older.

Comparisons were once again made between Messi and Ronaldo following the Chelsea game, with Rio Ferdinand even giving his unique take on the rivalry.

Ferdinand believes that while Messi will take up any position on the pitch to create and score goals, Ronaldo is an out-and-out goalscorer, which pretty much sums it up.

The Manchester United legend is certainly a big fan of both players and now footage has emerged of how he reacted to Messi's second goal against Chelsea in the BT Sport studio.

In the video below, Ferdinand screams: "Oh my God!" before sharing a joke with Gary Lineker and then saying to the camera: "He (Messi) is too much!"

FERDINAND REACTS TO MESSI'S MAGNIFICENCE

Nailed it. No amount of superlatives can truly describe just how good Messi is and the scary thing is, he's still only 30 years old.

Just like Ronaldo, who keeps delivering at the age of 33, Messi has at least another three years at the top in him, which is bad news for Ballon d'Or hopefuls like Neymar and Eden Hazard.
