Lionel Messi isn't bad at the old football. The man touted by many as the greatest to play the game added another famous chapter to his ever-growing scrapbook on Wednesday evening, producing yet another masterclass to eliminate Chelsea from the Champions League. The Argentine graced the Nou Camp with two goals and a sumptuous assist for Ousmane Dembele to fire in his first goal for the club, with Barcelona progressing 4-1 on aggregate. Before the tie, Messi hadn't scored once against Chelsea in eight attempts, but he well and truly put his hoodoo to bed, beating Thibaut Courtois three times in total.Gary Lineker, Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard were mesmerised by Messi as he racked up his 100th Champions League goal in 123 appearances. And in response to the record, one football fans decided to send an odd tweet to none other than Peter Crouch. And in typical fashion, the Englishman had a brilliant response.

CROUCH'S TWEET

Think we are all aware that Messi might just have the edge on Crouch and indeed every player to have graced English football.

However, that doesn't mean Crouch hasn't been a pretty underrated player throughout his career.

He's scored more goals than Dennis Bergkamp in the Premier League and has recorded more assists than Paul Scholes. Not bad.

Sadly, he's not in the same league as Messi.

The 30-year-old now has 601 career goals to his name, while also recording 44 hat-tricks for both club and country.

After his Chelsea performance, Antonio Conte appeared almost mesmerised by what he had seen, praising Messi to the best of his abilities.

“A fantastic player moved the final result, moved the qualification over the two legs,” the Italian said.

“I have to praise the commitment of my players, and be proud because they gave everything. But Messi made the difference and, when you have the opportunity to make a great compliment to Messi, it’s right to praise a super, super, super top player. A player who is able to score 60 goals in every season. Not only for one season. We are talking about an extraordinary player, the best in the world.

“He’s a player who can change the final result for any team he is playing in. But he started to play with Barcelona and, for sure, he will finish his career in Barcelona. Many teams can hope to have him in their team, but it won’t be possible. This is a great story for Barcelona and Messi. This type of player is born once every 50 years. We are talking about one single player with this capacity, with this ability, with these skills. He’s fantastic.”
