Jose Mourinho has come out swinging in his first press conference since Manchester United’s Champions League exit at the hands of Sevilla on Tuesday night. The Portuguese coach, who has been heavily criticised in the aftermath the Red Devils’ 2-1 defeat, went on a 12-and-a-half minute rant defending his record ahead of Saturday night’s FA Cup clash against Brighton and Hove Albion.Mourinho, fired up after the backlash, insisted that he isn’t going to “run away or disappear or to cry” because he was booed by a few United fans inside Old Trafford in midweek. The 55-year-old also made a point of listing Man Utd’s recent form in both the Champions League and the Europa League since 2012.He made it clear that United have struggled in European competition in recent years, aside from last season when they won the Europa League under his management.

Mourinho burns the players who've recently left United

You can watch Mourinho’s press conference in full - it’s well worth a watch - but arguably the most controversial statement was when he suggested some of the players that he inherited at Old Trafford, those that have left the club inside the past year, have gone on to do nothing with their current clubs.

“Do you know what is also heritage? Is that [Nicolas] Otamendi, Kevin De Bruyne, Fernandinho, [David] Silva, [Raheem] Sterling, [Sergio] Aguero, they are investments from the past, not from the last two years, do you know how many of United players that left the club last season?

“See where they play, how they play, if they play. That’s football heritage and one day when I leave the next Man Utd manager will find here [Romelu] Lukaku, [Nemanja] Matic, of course [David] De Gea from many years ago, they will find players with a diff mentality, quality, background, with a different status, know-how, and for some reason you go to the Champions League quarter-final like today and there are four clubs that are always there, always there.“

Let's look at which players he's referring to

So, let’s take a look at the players who’ve left Man Utd over the past 12 months…

Josh Harrop

Now with Preston North End in the Championship.

Wayne Rooney

United’s all-time record goalscorer has netted 11 goals in 29 matches for Everton.

Adnan Januzaj

A few bright performances aside, Januzaj hasn't exactly lit up La Liga with Real Sociedad.

Guillermo Varela

Now back with his first club Penarol in Uruguay.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Arsenal fans seem pretty pleased with him so far.

Players who left United in early 2017

We’ll also include those who left in the early months of 2017…

Morgan Schneiderlin

Has struggled at Everton.

Memphis Depay

Currently in the process of rediscovering his form and confidence at Lyon after his Old Trafford nightmare.

Bastian Schweinsteiger

Winding down his career with Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer.

While he might have a point about a few of them, lumping them all into the same category was probably a bit harsh.
