There's no doubt that the Los Angeles Lakers pulled off the biggest steal in the draft when they selected Kyle Kuzma with the 27th overall pick this year. The 22-year-old has been a revelation in L.A. and has performed at a level that nobody expected in his rookie season. That has been the narrative throughout the year and it's unlikely to go away as he's still producing consistent displays for a Lakers team in great form recently. He achieved a remarkable feat in Friday night's encounter with the Miami Heat to underline just how impressive his first campaign in the NBA has been. With his one made three-pointer in the contest, Kuzma set the record for the most threes by a Lakers rookie, according to the team's PR. He now has 132 makes for the campaign, breaking the previous record by D'Angelo Russell."It's pretty special. Anytime you have a record with the Lakers it's pretty special," he said about his historic feat, per Lakers Nation.“It’s also pretty cool just from the simple fact that everybody said pre-draft that I couldn’t shoot. Pretty funny, huh? How that works.”Despite missing the previous encounter with the Golden State Warriors, he returned to face the Heat and ended the game with 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and a steal in 32 minutes of action. The power forward enjoyed a milestone night but it came in a losing effort as Miami claimed a nail-biting victory at Staples Center.Goran Dragic hit a jumper with just seconds remaining to give his team a 92-91 lead and it proved to be enough as Isaiah Thomas missed a potential game-winning shot for Los Angeles.

Julius Randle continued his recent hot streak with a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds and Brook Lopez added 18 points.

But Dragic was the best player on the floor and led the Heat to a crucial road win with 30 points.

But this shouldn't sour a positive recent stretch for the Lakers where they've gone 8-4 since the All-Star break and have won the most games since the 2014-15 season (31-38).

Just like he has for much of the year, Kuzma has been a big part of that and has established himself as a crucial piece in the franchise's exciting young core moving forward.

He's averaging 15.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game this season and is also hitting 36 percent of his shots from beyond the arc.

The Utah product is proof that there are talented players outside of the lottery picks and the Purple and Gold have benefited from it on this occasion.
