The obsession within football to discover and hype up ‘the next big thing’ has reached new heights with the emergence of Xavi Simons.

Simons is a 14-year-old who plays for Barcelona and he’s been tipped to have a huge career.

There are several videos of Simons on YouTube, some of which have attracted more than one million views, and last year he was linked with super agent Mino Raiola.

Raiola, who represents Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marco Verratti, watched Simons play at Barcelona’s training ground last September, sparking rumours that he wants to add the teenager to his stable of clients.

"Xavi Simons is a great player, young, with potential and a big future. We're good friends,” Raiola admitted.

"Am I his advisor? It's better to be a friend than an advisor, believe me. Honestly, I am friends with all the players that I represent."

What's happening to Simons is crazy

There must be some concerns within Barcelona about the amount of attention that Simons is receiving right now; what’s happening to him is simply incredible.

Per Marca, Simons already has his own dedicated social media team that handles his online presence.

He recently hit one million followers on Instagram, where his posts include his own logo.

The Spanish outlet also report that the Dutchman has been told he is certain to play for Barcelona’s first team one day.

Watch: Xavi Simons' highlights

It’s easy to wonder how the commotion and the promises will impact Simons’ development - telling a 14-year-old that a place in Barcelona’s senior squad is already guaranteed doesn’t seem like the best way to motivate him.

Yet one glance at his highlights and you can understand just why the youngster is the talk of La Masia.

Simons has even had the luxury of meeting his namesake and Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez.

"I was with the physio when Xavi came over,” Simons said.

“When I told him that my name was also Xavi, he laughed. It was funny. He’s my idol.

"I know it’s difficult but I will do everything to make it.”

With everyone talking about Simons, it’s going to be impossible to ignore his journey.
