Carson Wentz's 2017 NFL season was brought to a halt early when he tore his ACL in his left knee during a Week 14 contest against the Los Angeles Rams. He wouldn't return for the Philadelphia Eagles that year, but they managed to become Super Bowl champions without him with Nick Foles under center.
Back in December, he underwent successful surgery on his ACL, but he's been out of action and hasn't thrown a football since that Rams game. He finished the year with 3,296 passing yards, 33 touchdowns, seven interceptions, a 60.2 completion percentage, and a 101.9 quarterback rating.
Philadelphia are unsure when exactly Wentz will be able to return under center for them, but there isn't a real need for them to panic since they know how well Foles can play when given the opportunity. Nevertheless, many Eagles fans will be pleased to see that the quarterback is making good progress.
On his own Instagram account, the 25-year-old posted a video of himself throwing footballs downfield with a knee brace on his injury, showing that he's making good progress towards returning in time for their season opener of the 2018 NFL season.
Wentz is important towards the Eagles' future, so there is no rush for the franchise to bring him back sooner than necessary. Foles showed throughout the second half of the season that he has the capabilities to lead the team in his absence.
However, the fact it looks like Wentz is throwing the football well with a knee brace on just three months after tearing his ACL is fantastic. It usually takes around nine months for an ACL injury to fully heal, so he is making great progress in his recovery.
There is a concern that Wentz may have to wear a knee brace for the rest of his playing career, which could affect how good he is for the Eagles once he returns to the field. He may never reach the same MVP level heights he reached last season, but we won't know what type of player he will be until he returns and plays a couple of games.
Wentz wants to play in the Eagles' season opener and looking at this video, he is making good progress towards that goal.
