England fans may struggle to get too excited for the upcoming international break with friendlies against Netherlands and Italy as they make final preparations for the summer’s World Cup.

However, there is plenty up for grabs for some of the players.

It’s their final chance to impress Gareth Southgate as they attempt to ensure they're on that plane travelling to Russia in a couple of months time.

But it’s not just in the two matches that the players have the opportunity to catch the eye.

They will all be looking to impress during the various training sessions during this international break.

However, it seems things aren’t going too well for a few stars.

With Harry Kane currently out injured, there will be plenty of attacking players looking to take advantage of his absence.

ENGLAND ATTACKERS HAVE A BIT OF A NIGHTMARE

But, according to the Mirror, they didn’t quite manage that in training on Tuesday.

They claim that during TWENTY-EIGHT crosses and shots during practice, they didn’t score once.

They write: “England's strikers drew an embarrassing blank in training on Tuesday, failing to score in TWENTY-EIGHT attempts.”

“Boss Gareth Southgate put his World Cup 2018-bound Three Lions stars through a drill at St George’s Park in front of invited guests, including RAF heroes.

COULDN'T COPE WITHOUT HARRY KANE

“But the onlookers watched them miss the target again and again from crossing and shooting drills, as the forwards looked goal-shy without injured Tottenham hot-shot Harry Kane.”

Oh, how embarrassing.

Perhaps credit should be given to the defenders and the goalkeeper in this situation but zero goals from 28 attempts doesn’t bode too well.

Having watched that, Southgate will be very keen to get Kane back to the squad as soon as possible but the manager claims he has a plan to survive without him.

"I've had Harry available for six out of 14 games so far, so we always need a 'what-if' scenario planning in our minds," Southgate said.

"I'm very clear. At this stage, we want to be keeping options available because as you've seen with Harry, something can happen at the drop of a hat.”
