WWE seems to have some big plans for former NXT Champion Samoa Joe upon his return to Monday Night RAW from injury.
Joe has missed the past several months of in-ring action due to a foot injury. Before being shelved Joe was one of the top stars on Monday Night RAW and had feuds with the likes of Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Seth Rollins, and more.
It looks like Joe is getting ready to make his return to the ring as he is being advertised for WWE's upcoming shows after WrestleMania. He is scheduled to be working matches against Roman Reigns, who is set to main event WrestleMania 34 against Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title.
Wrestling Observer Radio's Dave Meltzer recently commented on Joe's status on the latest edition of his show. The initial question was if he believes Joe could return at WrestleMania to be Braun Strowman's mystery tag team partner.
Strowman won a Tag Team Battle Royal that earned him the No. 1-contender's spot for The Bar's (Sheamus and Cesaro) RAW Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania 34. Strowman won that match by himself, however, and has no partner.
RAW General Manager Kurt Angle said that Strowman needs to pick a partner for the match as he can't compete for the titles alone. Meltzer didn't confirm if that was the plan for Joe or not, but did confirm what WWE's plans are for "The Destroyer" after WrestleMania.
Meltzer said that it's his impression that Joe is ready to return to the ring and will be working a program with Reigns for the Universal Championship (quotes via Ringside News):
"My impression is that Joe is ready. Right now, the plan is for Samoa Joe to be working with Roman Reigns.
"Of course, that is probably going to be changed sixteen times throughout the summer but that's the plan right now.
"I don't think that's the right way to introduce him but I don't know that's going to happen."
Having Joe return to win the RAW Tag Team Titles with Strowman would be quite an interesting way for WWE to bring Joe back. It would also be something that fans would go nuts for if Joe's music hits out of nowhere at Mania.
