Reading's top scorer Gylfi Sigurdsson has signed a new three-year contract to stay at the Madejski Stadium.

The Icelandic midfielder enjoyed a fantastic first full season for the Royals last year, scoring 20 times, and the 20-year-old had been linked with a move to a host of Premier League clubs.

He only signed his most recent contract last November but has committed himself for a further three years to leave chairman Sir John Madejski a relieved man.

Madejski said: "This is a massive signing for Reading Football Club. Gylfi obviously has a great career ahead of him and it is made all the more satisfying by the fact he progressed through our flourishing academy."

He added: "I hope this contract underpins our determination to progress in the forthcoming season."
