Let's be honest here, we'd all pay decent money to see the Premier League's fastest players race it out over 100 metres for charity.

It would be fantastic. There is always speculation over whom is the fastest player in English football: Jamie Vardy, Hector Bellerin, Mohamed Salah or someone else?

Until the finest ten players settle into a pair of blocks, however, they'll never be a definitive way of unveiling the true speed king of the Premier League.

Nevertheless, there are ways we can get close and since the 2013-14 season, Opta has collected data for English football's premier division concerning the speed of their players.

As well as recording the number of sprints a player executes during a game, the top speed they reach during some of these explosive runs are also documented.

Opta started recording player speed in 2013/14

This is all condensed into figures in kilometres per hour and can be used to compare between players.

Fans will probably be aware that Leroy Sane has racked up the top speed during the 2017/18 season but where does he finish across the past four years?

Well, the Premier League revealed the data on their official website on Friday and it makes for interesting reading to say the least.

The Premier League's 10 fastest players since records began

The only shame is that speed demons of the past such as Thierry Henry and Ryan Giggs cannot be thrown into the equation.

See below for the fastest players in the Premier League since records began:

10. Hugo Rodallega - 35.27km/h

9. Modou Barrow - 35.28km/h

=8. Carl Jenkinson - 35.31km/h

=8. Shane Long - 35.31km/h

6. Moussa Sissoko - 35.33km/h

5. Anthony Martial - 35.40km/h

=4. Patrick van Aanholt - 35.42km/h

=4. Kyle Walker - 35.42km/h

2. Jamie Vardy - 35.44km/h

1. Leroy Sane - 35.48km/h

There's still no stopping Sane when it comes to raw pace on English shores.

For a little bit of context, if the Manchester City winger was able to maintain that pace across 100m, he would be able qualify for an Olympic semi-final over that distance.

He took the accolade from Vardy this season with a blistering sprint against Chelsea in September, beating everybody who came before him and anyone since.

There are some surprising names in there with Jenkinson wiggling his way into the top ten as well as ex-Wigan Athletic striker Rodallega and Swansea City's Barrow.

On the whole, though, there's some familiar names with Sissoko, Vardy and Walker having proved their undeniable pace on numerous occasions.

We still want that 100m race to settle it, though...
