Jamie Carragher has kept a low profile over the past couple of weeks and understandably so.The former Premier League defender, who has carved out a successful career for himself as a pundit for Sky Sports post-retirement, saw his face splashed across the front pages of Britain’s tabloids earlier this month following the shameful spitting incident which could still cost him his job.Carragher, suspended by Sky until the end of the season, was filmed spitting at a Manchester United fan while driving after being goaded about Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford hours earlier. In the days following, Carragher conducted interviews with various news channels - including Sky and ITV - expressing his sincere remorse for the incident. The 40-year-old appeared genuinely apologetic for his actions and unable to explain why he reacted in such a way.The media storm is finally beginning to blow over now and police have decided to take no further action against either Carragher or the driver of the car for using his mobile phone while in control of a vehicle which also contained his 14-year-old daughter.Carragher made his first public appearance on Saturday afternoon, playing for Liverpool Legends in a charity match at Anfield.

Carragher shouldn't think about coming out of retirement

The former England international’s performance showed that he definitely shouldn’t consider the possibility of coming out of retirement.

The Liverpool Echo summed it up nicely with the following tweet…

Carragher, proving he hasn’t lost his sense of humour following his recent ordeal, replied: “One of the most complimentary tweets I’ve had in two weeks. Thanks!”

Bellew sends tweet to Carragher - and nails it

This then prompted a response from boxer Tony Bellew, who tweeted his fellow Scouser: “Your a good man who made a mistake! Unlike 99% of people who make/made mistakes you apologised for it and have done everything you can..”

Carragher, appreciate of Bellew’s message of support, responded: “Thanks Bomber.........finish the job 👊🏻“

Presumably that was a reference to Bellew’s upcoming rematch against David Haye.

Why Bellew's tweet is spot on

Regardless of Carragher’s actions, which were clearly unacceptable, Bellew’s tweet is so true.

The retired defender has held his hands up and admitted he was in the wrong. He has accepted everything that has come his way since and hasn’t looked to make excuses.

It would be a huge shame if Sky axe Carragher, who is undoubtedly one of the best football pundits on television at the moment, over one stupid mistake.

Hopefully he's back on our TV screens next season - providing, of course, there are no further misdemeanours between now and then.
