The spat between Manchester United pair Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba appears to have hit breaking point.

The two egos have not been on the best of terms ever since Pogba returned from a three-month injury lay-off, with his visit to Miami against Mourinho's wishes said to be the instigator for the whole debacle.

Pogba has had to be content with the bench of late, with The Sun reporting late Saturday night that an inside source told them that Mourinho is currently giving the Frenchman the 'silent treatment' at Carrington.

Not many would have predicted it would have come to this after Pogba's stellar start to the campaign, but the Mirror go one further and suggest that the club are now making serious plans for life after the midfielder's exit.

In fact, they're reporting that United have drawn up a five player shortlist for the post-Pogba era.

The Red Devils remain confident that, despite his inconsistent form, there will be significant interest in him and they plan to use him as 'bait'.

Top of their list are Real Madrid duo Rapahel Varane and Toni Kroos, who are said to be worth a combined fee of around £170m.

Should they fail to get Zinedine Zidane to sell, they will move onto Paris Saint-Germain pair Marco Verratti and Marquinhos, with Mourinho said to be quietly confident that the Ligue 1 leaders would welcome the arrival of Pogba and then do business.

The final target is Juventus' £45m rated left-back Alex Sandro, who is viewed as the natural heir to the ageing Ashely Young, with Luke Shaw almost certain to leave in the summer.

Well, you certainly can't say they don't have ambition for the summer window.

Realistically, Verratti and Marquinhos are ones which would be most likely to arrive, mainly due to the fact that the step from Paris to Manchester would represent serious career progress.

Would any player really fancy ditching Real for United? Probably not, particularly two of the most important players in Zidane's setup.
