Ricky Hatton was acutely aware that Lucas Browne had his work cut out against Dillian Whyte on Saturday evening - but he was still confident that his charge could produce an upset at the O2 Arena.Hatton, who promotes Browne, told talkSPORT at the weigh-in on Friday that the Australian had the potential to knock Whyte out at any time during the bout.“As fight fans, what we like to see is the knockout,” Hatton said. “I think Lucas can deliver one of them at any time in the fight.“I think Dillian Whyte is a better all-round fighter, but at the end of the day you’re dealing with a very big man, big punch, former heavyweight champion of the world.”Comparing Whyte to Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Chagaev, Browne’s toughest opponent to date, Hatton added: “He knocked out Chagaev and Chagaev is, no disrespect to Dillian, Chagaev is a better fighter than Dillian. I like to think he can do the same!”Hatton did end up witnessing a knockout on Saturday night - but it was his man who hit the canvas following a big left hook from Whyte in the sixth round.

David Haye blasts Browne after Whyte KO

David Haye summed up the feelings of some boxing fans when he told reporters after the fight: "I was saddened by the state Browne, who I hope is well, walked into the ring in.

“He had no timing, no rhythm, no pace or strategy whatsoever. It looked like he was trying to break Whyte's hands on his face in the hope of getting a win.

“I was disappointed in his physical appearance, he showed he didn't really put the time and dedication in."

Ouch.

Other boxing fans also disappointed by Browne’s performance took to social media to deride the 38-year-old, who was taken to hospital after being given an oxygen mask following that brutal knockout.

Hatton expresses his anger on Twitter

Hatton updated fans shortly after midnight to inform them that the early signs were positive. However, he was incensed to see some people making jokes at Browne’s expense when he might have potentially suffered a serious injury.

You can certainly understand why Hatton was angry.

Hatton's anger is understandable

We’ve sadly had a few examples over the past couple of years of boxers suffering serious injuries and even losing their lives after fighting.

Surely those who truly love the sport of boxing would never make jokes at the expense of a fighter who has been taken to hospital.

Fortunately, all turned out to be fine in Browne’s case.

He later thanked fans for their support via his Instagram page, which was shared on Twitter by Hatton…
