A lot has been said about Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba's relationship at Manchester United.

The Portuguese decided to bring Pogba back to Old Trafford in 2016 after shelling out £89 million for his services, but their relationship has become strained in recent times.

Mourinho stated he had no problem with the Frenchman after dropping him earlier last month, but admitted that his game has room for improvement.

"He works well, he’s a good professional, he likes to train. I’ve never had a single problem with him," Mourinho said. "As a kid you have more to develop but until the end of your career you have things to learn and things to adapt. I don’t see a problem."

However, there have been strong rumours that their relationship has severely deteriorated since then.

A report from the Sun emerged on Saturday night suggesting that their relationship had hit rock bottom, to the point where the Frenchman is communicating with his boss through assistant Rui Faria and backroom staff.

And the Mirror also stated that Mourinho has lost patience with his star player, and that he is ready to sell him to fund a '£200 million transfer blitz'.

DIDIER DROGBA PROVIDES INSIGHT

However, Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has provided a different view to the situation.

The Ivorian, who was brought to England by Mourinho and played under him for a number of seasons, stated that the reason for the Portuguese's poor relationship with Pogba is because he doesn't attack who he doesn't like.

Speaking to Telefoot, per FourFourTwo, Drogba said: "It was heated between us more than once, but Jose will never attack people he doesn't like.

"He likes Paul a lot. It's why he's given him a lot of responsibility."

It's an interesting theory, and the fact Drogba played under Mourinho for so many years gives him a lot of credibility.

Although the Portuguese has complained about Pogba to the media a number of times, it could be argued he is just spurring him on to try and help him fulfil his potential.

The Frenchman clearly has the talent to be a mainstay in the Manchester United midfield for a number of years to come, and if Drogba's words are anything to go by, it seems Mourinho has recognised that fact.

HUGO LLORIS DEFENDS POGBA

Pogba was defended by international teammate Hugo Lloris earlier this week, who stated that physical problems had hampered his consistency in recent times.

"This season is a little bit complicated but he was injured so that could explain why he was not consistent all the time," Lloris said.

"But he already proved with Manchester United and France that he is one of the best players in the world if he is at 100 per cent."
