AJ Styles is one of the most loved wrestlers in WWE today.

He joined the company back in 2016 as one of the world’s best, after spending 18 years on the independent circuit.

Styles began his career featuring in TNA and Ring of Honour, before moving to NJPW in 2014.

It was here that he gained mainstream popularity - joining the Bullet Club before eventually becoming their leader.

He lead that stable until January 2016 when he signed a contract with WWE, confirming his exit from NJPW.

Styles’ debut came at the Royal Rumble and he entered the 30-man match in the number three spot - to a huge ovation from the crowd.

He wrestled as a face, to begin with, feuding with Chris Jericho before taking on Roman Reigns for his WWE World Championship - but ultimately failed to capture it.

AJ then turned heel after beating up John Cena and was drafted to Smackdown Live to become the shows top villain.

It was here that he won his first WWE World Championship, defeating Dean Ambrose at the Backlash PPV in September 2016.

He went on to hold the title for 140 days, losing it to Cena at the 2017 Royal Rumble.

Styles turned face once again following WrestleMania 33 - and has been Smackdown’s top guy ever since.

He reclaimed the WWE Championship in November last year in Manchester - becoming the first WWE titleholder crowned outside of North America.

He is still holding the title today - and will next defend it at WrestleMania 34 against Shinsuke Nakamura in what’s being billed as a dream match.

The career that Styles has had - and most recently, his journey to the top of WWE is one unrivaled by many wrestlers.

He’s been the top guy wherever he’s been and too many fans, he is best in the world and has been for some time.

But according to Styles himself, there’s still work to do. He was recently asked by Sky Sports if he agreed with the view that he is the world number one.

"No, I would not agree with that," Styles responded.

"I think there's still a lot to be learned by AJ Styles and you can't consider yourself to be the best when you've still got so much stuff to learn."

By the sounds of it, AJ is looking to improve in the ring even more, which actually, is quite a scary thought.

Because if he does get even better, surely there won't be many in the WWE who can truly compete with him on a weekly basis.
