On the pitch in Amsterdam, England gave a good account of themselves on Friday evening.Gareth Southgate’s side triumphed 1-0 thanks to a Jesse Lingard strike as many players attempted to book their place on the plane to Russia this summer by impressing with their performances. But what happened off the pitch, once again, cast a shadow over England’s victory.Videos were being shared on social media of the disgusting behaviour from some of the fans that travelled to Holland to watch the Three Lions.Clips included some supporters standing on a bridge over the canal and drenching a boat full of people with beer as it went underneath.Of course, at the last international tournament in France, England fans were involved in hooliganism problems with Russia fans - although that wasn’t necessarily their wrongdoing. But there is fear of a repeat of that violence if England fans behave like they did in Holland over in Russia this summer.

WHAT ALAN SHEARER THINKS OF ENGLAND FANS

It’s something that England legend Alan Shearer is fearful of. Writing a column for The Sun, Shearer slammed some England fans and summed up their behaviour perfectly.

"Beautiful place, Amsterdam,” Shearer began.

“Great to walk or cycle around, taking in the incredible buildings and canals.

"Then England get to play there and suddenly it becomes the worst place any right thinking person would want to be. The shocking scenes that I witnessed on television and social media on Friday made me sick to the stomach.

SHEARER: ASHAMED TO BE ENGLISH

“Every time we think the hooligan problem might have finally gone away, we are reminded that it hasn’t. One particular video of so-called ‘fans’ waiting on a bridge to pelt tourists on a boat with beer and cans made me ashamed to call myself English.

"You almost end up looking away when people ask you where you are from when you go back to a city our hooligans have defiled.

"But if this was my time, I would  not want my kids travelling to watch me play for our national team. I would not want them put in such danger. Dragged into a scene that was not of their making. See them targeted, just because they are English.

“There were more than 100 arrests in  the end — lock ’em up and throw away the key, I would say.”

Well said, Alan.

Even Southgate condemned the behavior of England fans, claiming that it was a shame that they tarnished his side’s performance and victory in Holland.

"Without knowing the details... obviously it's not something I want to hear because most of all for us I think our players have represented their country really well tonight with pride and with some style," Southgate said.

"So, anything else that takes away from that performance for them would be a great shame."
