Throughout this dull international break, the topic of England's number one goalkeeper has been discussed rigorously among fans and pundits alike.

There are three main contenders for the prestigious jersey in Russia; Everton's Jordan Pickford, Stoke's Jack Butland and the Three Lions' number one from Euro 2016, Joe Hart.

Burnley's Nick Pope may have been called up by Gareth Southgate, but he is unlikely to be in with any chance, despite his brilliant performances in the Premier League with the Clarets this season.

The big debate has centred around Hart, with most England fans agreeing that the West Ham keeper simply cannot start in Russia.

He's barely playing for the Hammers and when he does appear between the sticks, he looks a disaster waiting to happen, gifting a goal to Chris Wood in West Ham's 3-0 loss just before the break.

However, back in 2013, Hart was in a much better place, with his position for England and Manchester City pretty much nailed down despite making a few errors.

Manuel Pellegrini and Roy Hodgson placed all their faith in him, but one man who was having absolutely none of it was Roy Keane.

And when you look at the Manchester United legend's words today, they look even more accurate than back then.

"Joe Hart is arrogant and making far too many mistakes," said Keane on ITV before England's World Cup qualifier v Montenegro in 2013.

"I’d have dropped him six months ago."

Now, this wasn't the first time Keane let loose on Hart in a fashion similar to what people are doing now, slamming him for his 'cocky' displays back in October 2012.

Keane said: "There's a fine line between confident and cocky and I think he's been a little bit too cocky this year. He just relaxes a little bit and takes his eye off the ball … and he needs a bit more competition around him."

Well, he now does have sufficient competition and he really has fallen behind the rest. Maybe Keane was right all along...
