Boyd set for Posh stay

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry admits it is looking likely that star player George Boyd will stay at London Road for a final year next season.

The 24-year-old spent the end of the season on loan at Nottingham Forest and has courted interest from a host of sides - including Burnley - but looks likely to be playing in League One next season for the Posh as no clubs have matched the asking price.

Fry said: "Gary Johnson is of the opinion that we should keep George next season because his presence will greatly improve our chances of promotion and the chairman will not go against his manager's wishes, especially a manager he has only just appointed.

He continued: "Obviously if we get a silly offer we would have to accept it and George would have the option of leaving, but although many clubs have expressed an interest in him, no one has come close to our own valuation.

"If that remains the case George will stay. He has already given us an assurance that he will give 100 per cent to the club if he stays for one last season. To be fair George has never said he's desperate to go, but he and his agent have made it clear that he will not be signing a new deal.

"Burnley did enquire about our asking price for George, but they have not come back. The only offer we have had so far we rejected out of hand. We were asked if we would take £1million now and then another £1million depending on appearances, goals and other add ons, but that's of no interest to us. It is looking more and more likely that we will have George next season and I'm sure that's something all our fans will be pleased about."
