Manchester United are locked in battle with Manchester City for Brazilian youngster Ganso.

The 20-year-old is earning rave reviews at current club Santos, and Manchester United are prepared to move for the playmaker should Manchester City not take up an option for the player.

A talented individual who's nicknamed 'the goose' in his homeland, Ganso recently agreed a new deal at the club to keep him there until 2014.

Real name Paulo Henrique, the Citizens reportedly have first choice on Ganso as part of the loan deal that has seen Robinho return to South America.

The Daily Mail reports that the option expires on August 4th, and Sir Alex Ferguson is poised to move for the attack-minded midfielder if Roberto Mancini fails to take the youngster from Peixe.

The Red Devils have a track record of bringing young Brazilians to Old Trafford, and Ganso would join the Da Silva brothers at the club were he to make the move to United.
