Defeat to the Netherlands on Monday night won't go down as one of Cristiano Ronaldo's finest performances.

Substituted in the 68th minute, failing to register a shot on target for the first time this season and judged to have been outperformed by Memphis Depay - Ronaldo has enjoyed better days at the office.

Goals from Depay, Ryan Babel and Virgil van Dijk secured the victory for Ronaldo Koeman's men ahead of their opponent's campaign in Russia.

Perhaps the most entertaining moment of Ronaldo's appearance in Geneva actually concerned an incident during a break in play and involving a group of pitch invaders.

Fans racing onto the pitch from the crowd and meeting the five-time Ballon d'Or winner is nothing new, but last night saw the most bizarre and extensive iteration.

Pitch invader kisses Ronaldo during Netherlands loss

No less than three supporters jumped the barriers and approached the Real Madrid star with one planting a kiss on Ronaldo's face before being escorted away.

Unsurprisingly, the episode sparked a huge reaction and ESPN have since revealed that the trio were in fact a group of Swiss comedians headed by Samir Alic and friend 'Carmine.'

Pitch invader uploads their video to Facebook

Furthermore, the comedian that kissed Ronaldo has uploaded his version of events onto Facebook and it's already going viral.

He was seen on the pitch filming with his phone and over 100,000 people have already seen the alternate angle.

It's certainly bizarre and, above all, amusing - check it out:

"We're going to go onto the pitch," Carmine shouted as he jumped the barrier.

"Come on, let's go. Go! Go! Go! We're going to touch Ronaldo, boys!"

After kissing Ronaldo, he turns the camera on his friend Alic who runs across the pitch to catch up with him.

The Bosnian-born comedian is reportedly notorious for sporting official CR7 underwear, which made up part of his outfit for the pitch invasion.

In the end, the group are reprimanded to a huge reaction from the Portuguese contingent with Alic later penning on Facebook: "Bravo all the Portuguese supporters who encouraged us!"

There was probably some jealously at the opportunity to get so close to a sport legend, but not in the awkward smooch or scuffle afterwards.
