One of the biggest NFL stories this week so far has to be the developing standoff between Odell Beckham Jr. and the New York Giants over the wide receiver's contract.

It has been known for some time that Beckham wants a new, longer-term deal with the Giants after an injury-riddled 2017 season with the franchise in order to secure his future with the team. However, that situation has stepped up a gear this week, as the wideout has said he will not step on the field again until he is given a new deal.

This has lead to speculation that New York could look to trade away the 25-year-old, with their asking price being a first-round pick plus, which means it might not take two first-rounders to complete such a trade. The Giants have since denied that they're looking to shop Beckham, but this hasn't stopped rumors from spreading about one team being interested in a trade.

According to the New York Daily News, the Los Angeles Rams have interest in trading with the Giants for the former LSU star and adding him to their wide receiver depth for quarterback Jared Goff to target next season.

Despite losing Sammy Watkins this offseason, the Rams still have a good receiving core of Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp, and Tavon Austin, but the addition of Beckham would certainly be a huge upgrade on what they already have.

Los Angeles has a lot of picks in this year's draft which New York might be interested in as well, so the components are there for a trade to happen, but such a deal is unlikely to take place. According to Kimberly Jones of NFL Network, the Giants know they are better with a healthy OBJ, and a trade “probably won’t happen."

Of course, all this could change if the Giants were given an offer for the wide receiver which they couldn't refuse, and considering Beckham has said he wants a contract where he is earning $20 million a year, nothing should be considered off the table yet.

Beckham is currently scheduled to earn $8.459 million in the final year of his rookie deal, but he did undergo season-ending ankle surgery last year which could keep him sidelined into training camp. The Giants expect him to be healthy enough to play Week 1, but he might not even turn up to training camp if he doesn't get the extension he desires.
