Thousands of football fans from around the world will have been very excited at the release of the official World Cup sticker book this week.Panini has brought out this tournament’s edition three months before the start in Russia - although fans in England will have to pay 80p for a pack of five stickers. It’s also interesting to see who Panini names in each squad. With only 18 players featuring for each nation in the sticker book, they often have to leave out some big names. This year, the likes of Jack Butland, Kieran Trippier and Chris Smalling have all been omitted by Panini from Gareth Southgate's squad. But it’s the inclusion of one player that has got everyone talking. Not so much because he’s been included, but because of his appearance.

PHIL JONES LOOKS...STRANGE

That man is Phil Jones.

Now, the Manchester United defender is renowned for pulling some rather incredible faces during matches.

But he’s not pulling a funny face for his Panini sticker.

Instead, he looks as though it's been airbrushed to the max and he's seemingly wearing make-up.

He’ll be wishing he actually looked like he does in the sticker, we think…

It’s something that plenty of fans have picked up on after opening a ‘Phil Jones’ in their packet of stickers.

JONES FACES A FIGHT TO BE IN SOUTHGATE'S SQUAD

While Jones is in the squad in the Panini sticker book, he faces a real fight to be named in the actually 23-man squad for the World Cup.

The centre-back was left out of the side for friendlies against Holland and Italy having lost his place in the Manchester United side.

But it was only a few months ago that Southgate was claiming Jones was England’s best defender.

"Not just this season but there was a long period in the middle of last season where I think he has been the best defender," Southgate said.

"He's got very good composure on the ball. He's got the reading of the game, he's aggressive in his defending - which I like - and I think he has got fantastic experience, although he is still only relatively young.

"Obviously he has missed a lot of football. I remember watching him against Spain under Fabio [Capello] so we are going back quite a long way since he made his debut.

"He's had great experiences with club and country. He organises well, he competes well so I'm delighted we've been able to involve him this time and it was clear the other night [against Malta] what he brings to the team."
