Manager Dario Gradi has given left-back Chris Stokes an opportunity to earn a contract at Crewe by offering him a trial.

The 19-year-old, who was recently released by Bolton, made two appearances for Alexandra during a loan spell towards the end of last season and Gradi has opted to give him another opportunity to impress.

"He is keen to come back and that is a good start," Gradi told the club`s official website. "We took him here on loan to have a look at him because we expected him to be released by Bolton.

"That has happened and he has asked if he can come here and have a trial. We are more than happy to have another look at him and the offer is there to come and train with us."

He added: "He has a lovely left foot, was not fazed by anything and has the physical attributes. If he wants to come in and I am sure he does, then he is more than welcome. If he does not that is fine also, we will see what happens."
