It’s crazy to think that some clubs only have seven Premier League matches remaining. While we won’t have a title race this season, there are still plenty of questions to be answered. The race for a top-four finish and the relegation battle look as though they will down right down to the wire. And then there are the awards.Mohamed Salah appears to have beaten Harry Kane to the Premier League Golden Boot, but Kevin de Bruyne may pip the Egyptian to the PFA Player of the Year award. But what about the PFA Team of the Year? Before the PFA announce the Team of the Year at the end of the season ceremony each year, almost every football fan and media outlet has a go at naming their own.

THE GUARDIAN'S TEAM OF THE YEAR

And this time around, the Guardian are the first to name their very own XI.

While it’s hardly surprising to see Salah and De Bruyne named, writer Sachin Nakrani had to leave out the likes Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane.

Here is his XI:

Ederson | Manchester City

Kyle Walker | Manchester City

James Tarkowski | Burnley

Ben Mee | Burnley

Andrew Robertson | Liverpool

Abdoulaye Doucouré | Watford

Kevin de Bruyne | Manchester City

David Silva | Manchester City

Mohamed Salah | Liverpool

Son Heung-min | Tottenham

Roberto Firmino | Liverpool

NO KANE!?

As you can imagine, there were plenty of football fans that didn’t agree with this team and they conveyed their views on social media.

Having scored 24 league goals this season before injuring his ankle, Kane will consider himself very unfortunate to be selected in the Guardian’s XI.

However, Nakrani explained exactly why he picked Firmino ahead of him.

“Cue the fury, especially around Wembley Way. No Tottenham fans, I haven’t forgotten about Harry Kane, and with 24 goals in 29 appearances he is an obvious candidate for the centre-forward role. But here’s the thing; the best frontline in the Premier League this season has been Liverpool’s – in term of goals, combination and spectacle – and fundamental to that has been Firmino," he said.

EDERSON OVER DE GEA!?

But there are also fans - mainly Manchester United fans - that can't believe Ederson has been selected ahead of David de Gea.

But Nakrani also had an answer to those complaints.

"David de Gea has kept the most clean sheets. David de Gea has made the most eye-catching saves. David de Gea is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, if not the world. But David de Gea doesn’t make this team because, across town, a 24-year-old Brazilian has made an incredible impact," he wrote.

Fair.
