Liverpool fans are fast losing hope that Emre Can will stay at the club beyond this summer.

The German has just a few months remaining on his current contract, and seems reluctant to sign a new one.

Can has not revealed personally why he is stalling on signing a new contract at the club, although it was reported a few weeks ago that he was demanding £200,000-per-week - which would easily make him the highest paid player at the club.

However, although the German has been evasive when asked about his future, he did take to Instagram to quash these rumours.

He wrote: "Interesting stories about me in the press. I'm no longer going to comment on any false stories or rumours.

"I've just returned from international duty with the German team and working on coming back from injury. Looking forward to getting back on the pitch asap."

KLOPP ASKED ABOUT IT AT PRESS CONFERENCE

Can's future has been one of the biggest topics of conversation on Merseyside, and after these reports emerged, Klopp was asked about whether there were any truth to the numbers that were being circulated in the press.

And his response was brilliant.

In typical Klopp fashion, the former Borussia Dortmund boss joked: "It was 250 (thousand per week)!"

Legend. It seems that Klopp is becoming increasingly tired of answering questions about Can's future, and has resorted to making jokes about the situation.

HE DID OFFER SOME HOPE

Quickly reverting back to serious, the German did offer hope to Liverpool fans wanting Can to extend his stay at the club by revealing that talks are still ongoing.

"Where the situation is at, at the moment: open," Klopp added.

"That's what we [have] said before, nothing is decided, it's open. We are in talks with him and it’s all good so far, apart from him signing a contract for us, that's all.

"No problem with that."

So it seems there is still some hope that Can will stay at Liverpool.

With just three months left on his contract, it seems more than likely he will leave. But judging by Klopp's comments, he is doing everything in his power to keep the 24-year-old at the club.
