It's looking very unlikely that West Ham will retain the services of Joe Hart this summer.

When the club pulled off the signing at the start of the season, co-owner David Sullivan described the England international as one of the best goalkeepers he had worked with.

However, in line with the stopper's general demise, he made 15 Premier League appearances before losing his place to Adrian.

Although he featured in the recent 3-0 defeat to Burnley, prior to that, his last outing came on November 29th, when he conceded four goals against Everton.

David Moyes has promised Hart he will try and afford him some game time if the Hammers secure their Premier League survival.

Long-term, a place at the World Cup could be the least of his worries as first and foremost, the 30-year-old needs to find a club to take him on for next season.

As it stands, he'll be heading back to Manchester City, where Pep Guardiola favours both Ederson and Claudio Bravo over him.

West Ham have another keeper in mind

To put things in even sharper perspective, the Mirror report that West Ham are actually on the hunt for a new man between the sticks, but that they would prefer to sign £4million Sam Johnstone.

The 25-year-old is on loan at Aston Villa from Manchester United and has the joint-third best defensive record in the second tier.

While Johnstone has been in decent form, if you'd told Hart a couple of years ago that by now, he wouldn't be able to compete with a Championship goalkeeper, he surely wouldn't have believed you.

In England's recent friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy, Gareth Southgate experimented with Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland respectively.

It's unquestionably a dark period in Hart's career and where he moves to next could decide whether he is able to bounce back.
