When Carlos Tevez hangs up his boots, he could quite easily write a book about his fascinating career.

Manchester City fans prefer to remember him as the man who crossed the divide to win the Premier League in 2012, having already achieved the feat twice with Manchester United.

Of course, he was no stranger to controversy in English football, arriving at West Ham amid a scandal surrounding his third-party ownership.

To this day, Sheffield United fans will tell you that the Blades were unfairly relegated because of the Argentinian's ineligibility for the Hammers.

Ultimately, anyone who scored 84 top-flight goals across a six-year spell isn't going to be forgotten quickly - but nowadays, the Boca Juniors' striker's career is a little baffling.

A move to the Chinese Super League made him the world's best-paid player - raking in an obscene £34million a year - but it didn't do much for his reputation.

Back at Boca, he has hit three goals in five league games, although it hasn't been entirely plain sailing.

Earlier this week, reports emerged that he had injured his soleus muscle during a football match with inmates in a maximum security prison, where he was visiting his half-brother.

There's been another twist

To make matters even more bizarre, the Mirror have now quoted an interview Tevez gave to TyC Sports, in which he has denied suffering the injury in those circumstances.

"Doing strength work at the gym last Wednesday morning, on the machine I felt a great pain in my calf," he said.

"On Friday, I used the kinesio [adhesive tape] waiting for progression. And since I did not see any, I had tests. There the stretch appeared.

"I do not know why some people do not believe me. If I had not been injured at the gym, I would not be so stupid to say I was injured here.

"But as I'm telling you, they begin to speculate about golf or jail. Sometimes they do not know if they talk bulls*** or not, but I always tell the truth, whether it's politically correct or not.

"I will not be such an idiot to expose myself to go to jail. That they talk so much bulls*** hurts and makes me stronger, because I have to keep evolving. It's time to shut up and deliver everything on the field."

Tevez is such a hero that Boca fans will desperately want to believe him.
