The NBA continues to go further down the three-ball route year by year. For the sixth season on the bounce, teams have combined to break the record for total three pointers made. Last season's record number of 23,748 was usurped on Friday night, and with two weeks still remaining in the regular season, 25,000 makes looks very achievable.

The deep shooting phenomenon isn't slowing down any time soon. The Warriors have set the precedent on how to win using a three-ball centric system, and in a copycat league everyone else is building their roster to rival them.

This season's record setters have been the James Harden-led Rockets. Houston leads the league in three-pointers attempted (42.4) and made (15.5) per game, and it's not really even close.

They only need to make five more three pointers to break their own single season team record too.

Rather surprisingly, the lowly Nets rank second in both categories with 35 three's attempted per game and 12.4 makes.

Mike D'Antoni's system, combined with the Rockets plethora of sharp shooters, is the perfect offensive storm in 2018. Led by runaway MVP leader Harden, who also leads the league in made three-pointers, Houston's ability to go on enormous scoring runs has seen them compile the best record in the NBA.

"We all like to get out there, shoot a lot of 3s, spread the floor and try to move the ball as much as you can," D'Antoni said. "Everybody is more or less the same ... with the same outline. Just get it done in different ways."

Harden became the first player to 250 makes from deep on Friday and will likely break Stephen Curry's five year long reign as the league's three point leader.

Curry has missed over 20 games this year, but still makes the top five with 212 makes so far. And, though Harden will break his long run atop the shooting ranks, the two-time MVP's all-time record of 402 made three-pointers in a season is well out of reach.

All kinds of franchise, and league records are continuing to be set year by year and according to Cavs forward Kevin Love the numbers are being exacerbated to due to the versatility of modern players at all positions:

"Every position, 1 through 5, is now shooting 3s. You see that as such a weapon. It makes the game fun, makes it interesting. There's definitely a lot of spacing out there and it's wild to see." the five-time All Star said.

19 teams are on pace to set or have already surpassed their franchise records for made three's in 2017-18. The prominence and importance of 'three and D' specialists has sky rocketed in recent years; in the 2013-14 season only 57 players made over 100 three pointers.

This season the total is already over 100.

Jazz rookie Donovan Mitchell took his season tally from deep 174 on Friday and is closing in on Damian Lillard's rookie record of 185 made three's. And, the All Star game three point contest record was also shattered this year by Suns star Devin Booker.

Few records seem safe from the onslaught of three point shooting, but if there is one that will stand up through this craze, it's Curry's 402 makes in a single season.

Even James Harden, in an MVP season and in D'Antoni's system, doesn't seem to be able to get close that incredible mark.
